Frixos
Ioannides
Frixos
has been living and working in
Australia
since 1968.
He holds formal
qualifications in Fine Art,
Education, Media Studies, and
Computing. For a number of years he
taught art, media, and computer
science in a secondary school. In
the last few years of his teaching
career, he taught computing,
information technology and computer
graphics at the Wantirna TAFE campus
of
Swinburne
University
.
In
the 1980s and early 90s Frixos’
main medium was screen printing.
During that time he exhibited in
several solo and group exhibitions
in
Melbourne
.
His last exhibition was in 2006 when
he exhibited digital
(computer-based) prints and drawings
at the Greek-Australian Research and
Learning Centre of RMIT.
In
October 2008 he exhibited a
collection of digital prints and
drawings at the Steps Gallery in
Carlton
Victoria
.
The exhibition was named
The
remains of a journey after the
title of one of the pieces on show.
Frixos draws inspiration from his
immediate environment, from his
travels to the Australian
countryside and from his visits to
his country of origin,
Cyprus
.
His
themes include landscapes, interior
scenes and imaginary compositions
that he creates with the use of
computer programs, or simply with
pen and ink on paper. The computer
based compositions often include a
combination of photographic
elements, digitised drawings and
computer generated images. The
combination of these elements
creates a sense of abstract realism,
a characteristic of many of his
recent works.
